Islamabad, Feb 28: Several regions, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, continue to experience intermittent rainfall for the third consecutive day. The heaviest downpour recorded in the capital was 8mm in Saidpur. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this rainy spell is expected to persist until March 1.

Impact on Cricket and Travel

The ongoing showers have disrupted the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, causing multiple interruptions. Meanwhile, heavy snowfall in northern regions has led to road closures and hazardous travel conditions. The PMD has issued warnings for Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Haveli, cautioning travelers about slippery roads and potential landslides.

Rainfall Across Punjab

Lahore continues to experience light to moderate showers, accompanied by a noticeable drop in temperature. Rain has also been reported in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Gujrat, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Narowal, with some areas witnessing hailstorms. Farmers remain optimistic about the positive effects of this rain on wheat and other crops. The cold weather has also led to an increased demand for hot snacks, with people flocking to enjoy fresh pakoras and tea.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa & Balochistan

Continuous rain and mountain snowfall have been recorded in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Malakand. In Balochistan, areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, and Loralai are experiencing similar weather patterns, intensifying the cold wave.

Murree & Northern Areas

Murree and Galiyat have seen heavy rainfall accompanied by light snowfall, enhancing the region’s scenic beauty. Rising water levels in streams and rivers have been noted, while tourists continue to enjoy the winter landscape. The PMD forecasts that this weather pattern will persist for the next 48 hours.

Sindh Remains Dry

Unlike other regions, most districts in Sindh are experiencing dry weather, with no significant rainfall reported.

Weather Outlook

For Friday, the forecast suggests predominantly dry and partly cloudy conditions across most regions. However, isolated rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall may occur in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Balochistan, northeast Punjab, the Pothohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Fog is expected to develop in some plain areas of central and southern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

With ongoing rain and snowfall, authorities urge citizens to take necessary precautions, especially in affected areas prone to landslides and road blockages.
