Islamabad, July 21, 2025: Rain returns to Pakistan after last week’s heavy downpours, raising fresh concerns in already affected areas like Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

According to Pakistan Metrological Department heavy rain may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Hill torrents of D.G Khan, Northeast Punjab and Kashmir from 21st to 25th July.

Heavy Downpour may cause urban flood in low lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera and Peshawar from 21st to 25th July.
Landslides may cause roads closure in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy falls/windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures like roof/wall of Kacha houses, electric poles, bill boards, vehicles and solar panels during the forecast period.

Torrential monsoon rains have triggered deadly floods across Punjab and Azad Kashmir, with Rawalpindi, Jhelum, and Chakwal worst affected. Recently reported Nullah Lai overflowed after 237 mm of rain in Rawalpindi, sinking roads and homes and shutting Motorway M-1. Chakwal saw 470 mm of rain, dam breaches and deadly house collapses. In the past 24 hours, people have died and were injured across Punjab.

Stay indoors during heavy rain and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly through flooded roads or underpasses. Unplug electrical devices to minimize electrocution risk. Clear drains around your home to prevent water buildup. Avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas like Nullah Lai.
