Islamabad, Jan 6: Severe winter weather caused major disruptions across Europe on Sunday, affecting air travel, train services, and road transport.
In the UK, airports such as Manchester, Liverpool, and Newcastle experienced temporary runway closures due to heavy snow and ice. Manchester Airport, the third largest in the country, briefly shut down its runways before reopening after staff cleared the snow. Other airports, including Liverpool’s John Lennon and Newcastle International, faced disruptions with staff working to ensure safety and resume operations.
Train services were also impacted, with speed restrictions and line closures across England, Scotland, and Wales. Birmingham and Bristol airports also faced delays and closures due to snow accumulation.
In Germany, severe weather conditions, including snow and black ice, led to the cancellation of 120 flights at Frankfurt Airport. The cancellations, along with poor visibility, further disrupted air travel, adding to the ongoing challenges of winter storms across Europe. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and issue advisories to ensure public safety.
