The Higher Education Commission (HEC) cricket team, comprised of university students, has demonstrated exceptional prowess on the field, securing a spot in the semi-finals of the President’s Cup 2024. Their journey has been nothing short of remarkable, marked by victories against formidable opponents such as State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Television Corporation, and WAPDA.

In a thrilling encounter, the HEC team clinched a nail-biting victory by just 1 wicket against WAPDA, showcasing their resilience and skill under pressure. Aqib Liaquat, hailing from the University of Sargodha, shone brightly with his remarkable bowling performance, claiming 5 wickets and earning accolades as the star player of the match.

This commendable achievement by the HEC team, competing against seasoned professionals and international cricketers, reflects their dedication and determination to excel in the sport.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC, along with Dr. Zia Ul Qayyum, Executive Director HEC, and Mr. Javed Ali Memon, Incharge of Sports and Co-curricular Activities Division, HEC, expressed their sincere appreciation for the team’s outstanding performance.

Looking ahead, the HEC is set to launch the Talent Hunt Cricket initiative, in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP), aimed at identifying and nurturing cricketing talent among Pakistani youth aged 15-25 years. This initiative will pave the way for aspiring athletes to compete at both national and international levels, further bolstering Pakistan’s presence in the cricketing world.
