Islamabad, Dec 19: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has successfully reviewed and updated the curriculum for BS and MS degree programs in Physical Education, marking a significant step towards modernizing higher education in the country. This update, which follows the last curriculum revision in 2014, aligns with emerging trends, global standards, and the evolving needs of the sector.
A two-day National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC) meeting, held at the University of Punjab, brought together representatives from 18 institutions across Pakistan. The committee’s goal was to refine the curriculum to better address the modern demands of Physical Education and ensure that graduates are equipped with the skills required in the contemporary sports and health landscape.
Professor Dr. Zafar Iqbal Butt, Chair of the Department of Sports Sciences at the University of Punjab Lahore, was elected as the convener of the committee. His expertise played a crucial role in guiding the process of updating the curriculum. The meeting’s discussions focused on incorporating the latest developments in Physical Education, enhancing research, and fostering a more comprehensive approach to the field.
Dr. Amjad Hussain, Director General (Academics) at HEC, emphasized the importance of creating a curriculum that not only meets academic standards but also prepares students for practical challenges in sports, health, and physical education. He expressed gratitude to all participating institutions for their valuable input.
The updated curriculum is expected to enhance the academic and professional readiness of graduates, enabling them to contribute more effectively to Pakistan’s sports sector, health promotion, and educational advancements in Physical Education. This revision will ensure that the country’s education system remains in line with global trends and industry standards.
