Islamabad, Feb 19: Lahore’s traffic police have introduced a new regulation mandating that motorcycle rickshaw and loader rickshaw drivers wear helmets while on the road. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore confirmed that strict penalties will be imposed on those who fail to comply.
To ensure smooth implementation, the traffic police have launched an awareness campaign, distributing helmets to rickshaw drivers. The rule officially came into effect yesterday, and authorities have warned of immediate action against violators.

This initiative follows similar helmet mandates previously enforced for motorcyclists in Lahore and Rawalpindi, aimed at reducing road accidents and improving safety. Authorities stress that not just drivers but also passengers remain highly vulnerable in case of collisions, making helmet use crucial.
Rawalpindi implemented a similar rule on February 1, imposing a fine of Rs. 2,000 for non-compliance, along with the possibility of motorcycle impoundment. Officials argue that such measures are necessary to curb head injuries and fatalities, reinforcing the importance of road safety across Punjab’s major cities.
