Islamabad, Feb 12: India has officially announced its revised 15-member squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, introducing two notable changes. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal have been excluded, making way for fast bowler Harshit Rana and mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy.

Bumrah Ruled Out Due to Injury

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made these adjustments after Jasprit Bumrah was deemed unfit to participate due to a persistent back injury. The pacer sustained the injury during the Sydney Test in January, which also ruled him out of the England white-ball series. Under the guidance of the BCCI medical team, Bumrah will continue his rehabilitation. This marks the second major ICC event he will miss following his absence from the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Harshit Rana Steps Up

To bolster India’s pace attack, selectors have chosen emerging pacer Harshit Rana. The 22-year-old made his ODI debut against England and has impressed with his composure under pressure. His selection over seasoned options like Mohammed Siraj has sparked discussions, but the selectors are confident in his potential.

Strengthening the Spin Department

In a strategic shift, India has opted for an extra spinner, bringing in Varun Chakravarthy to replace Yashasvi Jaiswal. Chakravarthy has been in phenomenal form, scalping 31 wickets at an impressive average of 11.25 since rejoining the T20I setup. His recent ODI debut against England further reinforced his credentials as a match-winning spinner.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, will serve as a non-traveling reserve alongside Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube.
