ISLAMABAD – 18 August 2025: The Ministry of Housing and Works has submitted a proposal to the Finance Division seeking an increase in the rental ceiling for federal employees.
The proposal recommends revising the current rental ceiling rates in accordance with a recent report by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. It notes that no increase has been made over the past four years, while house rents in major cities have risen significantly during this period.
An official spokesperson from the Ministry of Housing and Works confirmed that the proposal was sent to the Finance Division for approval approximately three weeks ago. “The response from the Finance Division is still pending,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also highlighted that Housing Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada is committed to providing maximum relief to federal employees in all housing-related matters. “The minister adopts a problem-solving approach, remains cooperative, and consistently champions the genuine rights of federal employees,” she added.
Typically, the government reviews the rental ceiling every three years. The last revision occurred in 2021, leaving a four-year gap during which housing costs in major cities have surged, putting additional financial pressure on employees already facing economic challenges.
