Islamabad, June 25, 2025: Indian Test team’s vice-captain and star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is under fire after a heated incident with umpire Paul Reiffel during the ongoing India vs England Test series at Leeds. On Day 3 of the match, Pant’s conduct may have breached the ICC Code of Conduct, possibly resulting in a ban or fine.
The drama unfolded during the 61st over of England’s innings. Harry Brook smashed a boundary off a delivery from Mohammed Siraj. After the shot, Pant approached umpire Reiffel, requesting a ball change.
Despite the umpire’s inspection and assurance that the ball was fine, Pant insisted on a replacement. When the appeal was turned down a second time, Pant angrily slammed the ball into the ground — an act that could be classified as dissent.
Such behavior is taken seriously by the International Cricket Council. Under Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, any player showing dissent at an umpire’s decision can be charged with a Level 1 or Level 2 offense. If found guilty, Pant could face disciplinary action, including fines or a potential ban from the next Test match.
This controversy adds tension to the high-stakes India vs England Test series, already drawing global attention. The ICC has yet to make an official statement, but sources suggest a decision may be announced soon. If Rishabh Pant is banned, it could severely impact Team India’s strategy for the upcoming matches.
