Islamabad, June 26, 2025: The Islamabad High Court has put on hold the dismissal notifications issued to staff members of the Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority (NAPHDA), offering temporary relief to the impacted workers until the final decision of the case.

The Authority was established to support the creation of affordable housing for financially struggling citizens across the nation. Since its inauguration, NAPHDA has initiated several housing schemes in cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Sargodha, Chiniot, and Nowshera, with a target of constructing around 122,507 residential units through partnerships with both public and private entities.

Among the notable milestones are the development of 27,861 units in collaboration with the Akhuwat Foundation, 31,391 houses funded through individual loans under the Mera Pakistan Mera Ghar (MPMG) initiative, and 3,564 units constructed alongside the Workers Welfare Fund.

In Islamabad, NAPHDA joined hands with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) to launch 26,716 housing units. Furthermore, over 20,000 homes were introduced in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with support from various local development bodies.

Lately, the sitting federal government decided to shut down NAPHDA and appointed the Director General of FGEHA as Acting Chairman. He later ended the contracts of numerous long-serving employees. The workers challenged this move in court, stating that the Acting Chairman lacked authority under relevant rules and that the terminations were unjust and politically driven. Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir suspended the orders until final verdict is announced.
