Islamabad, May 26, 2025: Following orders from the high court, the Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has launched a strict crackdown on the farming of vegetables irrigated with polluted sewage water, highlighting serious health risks for the public.
During the initial stage of the campaign, officials uprooted vegetable crops cultivated over multiple acres near Quetta’s Sabzal Road, where untreated wastewater was being used for watering.

The BFA Chairman said “In line with court instructions and government regulations, growing vegetables with sewage water is completely unacceptable. This practice endangers public health and will not be allowed to continue.”

The authority has pledged to extend the operation to other regions and pursue legal measures against those caught doing illegal farming with sewage water and growing crops with contaminated water sources.
