Islamabad, 19 Apr, 2025: Life-Changing Devices for the Disabled have taken center stage in Punjab’s social welfare strategy, with a historic initiative spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Aiming to bring transformative change to the lives of people with special needs, this groundbreaking project offers advanced assistive tools to enhance mobility, independence, and daily functionality.
For the first time in provincial history, such a comprehensive support system has been launched, signaling a new era of inclusion.
Reinforcing this vision, CM Maryam Nawaz formally introduced the program under the banner “Life-Changing Devices for the Disabled,” pledging Rs1 billion worth of essential aid equipment for distribution across the province.

This includes top-tier mobility aids like wheelchairs both electric and manual customized artificial limbs, smart hearing aids, tricycles, walkers, and mobile toilet chairs. These items will be provided at no cost to qualified applicants.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, she highlighted that the program is designed with a personalized approach, ensuring each beneficiary receives equipment suited to their unique physical needs.
More than 300 individuals with disabilities from diverse districts of Punjab participated in the event, marking the project’s powerful beginning.
In a major technological leap, CM Maryam announced that Punjab has become Pakistan’s first province to adopt bionic limb rehabilitation, a cutting-edge advancement that allows artificial limbs to move based on neural signals.
To further enhance accessibility, she ordered that all public offices be equipped with special ramps, and that field hospitals be upgraded with elevators to support people with limited mobility.
The chief minister also encouraged disabled citizens to register through the Social Welfare Department’s online platform so that equipment can be delivered to their doorstep without delay.
This step reflects the administration’s commitment to dignity, autonomy, and efficient service delivery.
Moreover, she unveiled a broader welfare strategy, announcing the launch of Pakistan’s most extensive ration card initiative, which will benefit 1.25 million low-income families with Rs10,000 each, beginning May 1.

Simultaneously, she emphasized the fast-paced development under the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ program, where 30,000 homes are under construction within just five months.
In contrast to previous administrations, her government plans to build 100,000 houses by year-end and allocate free land to the underprivileged.
This landmark initiative not only fosters equality but also empowers individuals with disabilities to reclaim their place in society with pride and purpose.
