Islamabad, July 11, 2025: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar firmly reiterated that India cannot stop Pakistan’s rightful access to its water resources, nor can it divert the flow of rivers awarded to Pakistan under the Indus Water Treaty.
Speaking at an event organized by overseas Pakistanis in the Malaysian capital, Dar condemned India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, which equitably divides water between the densely populated nations.

During his 40-minute address, Dar criticized the Indian government’s actions as unjust and unlawful.
The Deputy PM also highlighted that that while the US-brokered ceasefire between India and Pakistan remained intact, the right-wing Indian leadership remained dissatisfied with the current status quo.
He recalled Pakistan’s strong response to to unprovoked Indian aggression in May this year, which resulted in India losing over six aircrafts, including four Rafale jets.
Touching on Pakistan’s economic situation, Dar expressed optimism that despite recent financial hardships, the government was committed to positioning Pakistan among the world’s leading economies; including an eventual inclusion in the G20.

Earlier, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that Dar had travelled to Malaysia to attend the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting. On the sidelines, he held talks with the Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, including trade cooperation. The Malaysian PM conveyed his eagerness to meet with Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif later this year.
