Islamabad, Mar 09, 2025: Team India claimed their first ICC ODI title in 12 years, defeating New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
The final encounter, played on a spin-friendly surface, saw India comfortably chase down the total of 252 runs in the 49 to clinch the Champions Trophy for the second time.
Batting first, New Zealand struggled to build momentum. Despite a solid half-century from Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101 balls), their total remained modest.
Rachin Ravindra contributed a quick 37 runs off 29 balls, while Michael Bracewell scored 53 off 40 balls, and Phillips scored 34 off 52 balls.
Indian bowling attack was clinical, with Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami taking two wickets each while Shami took one wicket.
In response, Rohit Sharma led the charge with a blistering 76 runs off 83 balls. Though Virat Kohli fell early, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the chase with a 61-run partnership.
Shubman Gill scored 31 runs to support Sharma in the opening, while KL Rahul fighting 34 off 33 balls brought India closer to a calm finish, sealing the victory.
Rahul took the final runs to reach the target in the 49 over, leading the Men in Blue to their long-awaited ICC ODI title.
