Islamabad, May 14, 2025: Pakistan and India have exchange one prisoner at the Wagah-Attari border crossing on Wednesday.
The carefully coordinated exchange of personnel took place under strict security measures, security sources confirmed.
Both countries handed over the officials who had been in each other’s custody.
Pakistan released Purnam Kumar Shah, a Border Security Force constable, handing him over to Indian authorities. He was in Pakistan custody since 23 Apr 2025.
In a post on X platform, Indian army said Border Security Force soldier “Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistani Rangers since 23 April 2025, was handed over to India.”

The handover was “conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols,” the BSF said.
In return, Indian officials return Muhammad Allah, an officer from the Punjab Rangers.
The exact details surrounding how the two ended up across the border remain uncertain.
However, officials from both countries confirmed that the exchange was arranged through diplomatic talk and carried out in a mutually agreed manner.
