Islamabad, Sep 27: India vs Bangladesh 2nd Test: Bangladesh at 74/2 at Lunch
all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has expressed his desire to play his farewell Test match in Bangladesh during the upcoming series against South Africa, contingent upon receiving personal security cover due to an ongoing case against him.
However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed has denied the board’s ability to provide such security.
Security Concerns
Faruque stated that individual security is not within the BCB’s jurisdiction, emphasizing that Shakib needs to seek security from the highest level of government. “Shakib’s security is not in the board’s hand. The board can’t provide an individual with personal security.
He has to take a decision on that,” he noted. This situation raises the possibility that if security is not granted, the upcoming series could mark Shakib’s last appearance in Test cricket.
India vs Bangladesh Shakib is currently participating in the second Test match against Kanpur, where Bangladesh has been asked to bat. Faruque added,
“BCB is not a security agency like the police or RAB (Rapid Action Battalion). We haven’t spoken to anyone (in the government) about him. Since his case is a sub-judice matter, we can’t really do much about it.”
The decision on Shakib’s farewell match remains uncertain as the all-rounder navigates his security concerns amidst his desire to conclude his illustrious Test career on home soil.
