Islamabad, Oct 18: Expressing a great deal of satisfaction, and perhaps relief at the end of the summit, at the warmth Indians were given during the course of the SCO summit in Islamabad, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in a message to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister, and his counterpart Ishaq Dar said he, for the Indian side, appreciated the hospitality and the courtesies extended by the Pakistani government.
Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar, who attended the SCO moot held in Islamabad, is the first foreign minister of the neighbouring nation to visit Pakistan in nearly a decade.
Hours after the conclusion of the two-day regional huddle, Jaishankar wrote on his X handle: “Departing from Islamabad. Thank PM @CMShehbaz, DPM & FM @MIshaqDar50 and the Government of Pakistan for the hospitality and courtesies.”
“Pakistan was honoured to host SCO Member States in Islamabad,” he added. However, as sources inform Geo News, during the lunch hosted for the leaders attending the SCO summit, there was a brief conversation between FM Dar and his Indian counterpart Jaishankar. But the sources added that the information about the specific details of the talks between the top levels cannot be disclosed at the moment.
While talking about the Indian FM visit to Pakistan in nearly 10 years, the information Minister Attaullah Tarar describes the visit as an ice breaker. “Neither us nor them asked for a bilateral meeting … but I think his coming here is an ice breaker,” AFP quoted the information minister as saying in Bahasa Indonesia.
‘Yesterday when all the leaders were being welcomed and there were handshakes, I believe right signals were sent out internationally.” Indian FM Jaishankar and PM Shehbaz shook hands with somber dislikes at the beginning of an official day banquet with the SCO bloc leaders yesterday Tuesday.
The relations were further hostile between India and Pakistan after the Prime minister Narendra Modi decided to revoke the geographical limited autonomy of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in August 2019.
Jaishankar in another X post further expressed that a fruitful meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government has happened in Islamabad today. “We signed eight outcome documents.” In its input, India has given a positive and constructive input to the discussion.
