Islamabad, July 27, 2025: Instagram has officially confirmed that the phrase “link in bio” does not impact visibility or reach, ending a wave of confusion among influencers and content creators.
No Penalty for “Link in Bio,” Confirms Instagram Chief
Addressing the viral myth, Instagram’s top executive Adam Mosseri clarified in a recent update:
“If you say ‘link in bio,’ it will not affect your reach one way or another. You’re more than welcome to say it as much as you like.”
This statement directly targets ongoing fears that the algorithm penalizes posts prompting users to leave the app, especially those linking to outside websites.
Several digital marketing platforms—including Hootsuite—have conducted independent tests. Their results show no significant drop in post engagement, likes, or impressions when the term “link in bio” is used. This supports Instagram’s stance that reach is driven more by engagement metrics like likes, saves, shares, and watch time than by specific phrases.

Why Creators Still See Reach Drop
Despite the official clarification, some users still report reduced visibility on posts with similar CTAs. Experts say this is likely caused by:
- Repetitive or boring content
- Low-quality visuals
- Poor posting times
- Viewer fatigue from repeated “link in bio” usage
These are natural engagement issues, not algorithm suppression.

How to Use Link CTAs Without Losing Engagement
While the “link in bio” myth is now busted, marketers suggest these best practices to boost performance:
- Rotate your CTAs: Mix “check our story,” “tap the link,” or use emojis.
- Leverage Instagram Stories: Use link stickers for better click-through rates.
- Try pinned comments with links for better visibility.
- Track clicks via UTM codes or link shorteners like Bitly.
