The International Day of Democracy is observed every year on September 15. The purpose of this day is to promote democracy, raise awareness about the importance of strong democratic institutions, and help improve people’s quality of life.
Every year, the United Nations, along with various governmental and non-governmental organizations worldwide, holds events, conferences, and discussions to commemorate this day and promote democratic values. It is worth noting that this day was first observed in 2008, and since then, it has been celebrated annually without interruption.

What is democracy?
Democracy is a system of government under which people can freely elect their representatives. According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the key elements of democracy include the holding of free and fair elections at regular intervals and enabling people to express their views. Elections in a democracy must be based on equality to ensure that all citizens can elect their representatives under conditions of openness, equality, and transparency.
