Islamabad, Sep 29: International Labour and Trade Unions Delegation Meets Ch Shafay Hussain to Discuss Workers’ Rights. At a nearby hotel on Sunday, a 12-person delegation from International Labor and Trade Unions paid a visit to Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, the provincial minister for industries and commerce.
Shoya Yoshida, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, Asia-Pacific, Singapore, led the delegation.Mutual cooperation for the preparation of skilled labor and the advancement of technical education was decided upon during the meeting. The potential for trade with different nations was also examined.
The team received a briefing from the minister regarding investment opportunities and initiatives aimed at advancing technical education. According to him, investors in Punjab’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) can take use of unique benefits including a one-time duty-free machinery import facility and a 10-year income tax exemption.
He said that TEVTA, with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, is establishing 19 Centers of Excellence in various cities. On 630 acres in Sheikhupura, a Garment City is being constructed. The government will construct industrial unit structures there and rent them out to investors.
The minister emphasized the TEVTA institutions’ upgrades and the continuous development of industrial infrastructure. He also disclosed that the cabinet has been requested to approve Punjab’s Skill Development Policy 2024. He further mentioned that TEVTA colleges are the first to provide solar study programs.
Moreover, a number of Chinese businesses have indicated interest in making investments in Punjab. The promotion of solar energy and electric vehicles is the Punjab government’s main goal, according to Ch. Shafay Hussain.The group pledged to collaborate with Punjab in order to advance technical education and reciprocal trade.
Mr. Eugenio Mozarelli, the country manager of the Italian Trade Union Cooperation Agency from Rome, Italy; Mr. Laxman Basnet, the general secretary of the South Asian Trade Union Confederation from Nepal; Mr. Geir Tonstol, the country director of the International Labour Organization in Pakistan; and Mr. Imad Ashraf, the country head of the American Solidarity Center in Pakistan were among the delegation members. Other members included Ch. Naseem Iqbal, President of the Pakistan Workers Federation, and Malik Tahir Javed, President of the Employees Federation of Pakistan.
