Islamabad, Mar 17 2025: Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has expressed concern over the steady decline in the national cricket team’s performance, attributing it to poor decision-making and instability within the management.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Inzamam pointed out that the team’s performance had deteriorated over the past two years. He believed that a lack of direction and repeated mistakes had significantly impacted results.
The former chief selector warned that unless the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) implemented proper planning and execution, the team’s struggles would continue.
He emphasized that frequent changes in management, coaching staff, and players had created an unsettled environment, preventing the team from building consistency.
Inzamam urged cricket officials to learn from past errors rather than repeating them. Reflecting on his own experience, he mentioned that he had stepped down as chief selector in 2023 due to PCB’s mishandling of a conflict-of-interest issue.
The legendary batter stressed that constant reshuffling within the team setup was not a solution, as it only weakened player confidence.
Instead, he suggested a more strategic approach, identifying key problem areas rather than making unnecessary changes.
Inzamam also voiced his support for Babar Azam, acknowledging him as a top player who was currently experiencing a rough patch.
The former right-hander further stated that emphasized that trusting both management and players was crucial for improving the team’s performance.
Recalling the impact of the 1990s generation of cricketers, he noted that Pakistan cricket had gained immense strength from that era, and their contributions remained significant.
