Islamabad 3 August: Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Islamabad on Saturday, for a two-day official visit, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and elevate annual trade with Pakistan.
Landing at Nur Khan Air Base, Pezeshkian was warmly received by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, marking his first trip to the capital in his current role.
The visit, announced by Pakistan’s Foreign Office, underscores a mutual commitment to deepen cooperation amid a shifting geopolitical landscape. Pakistan has recently expressed solidarity with Iran, pledging on Friday to mediate tensions between Tehran and the United States, a move experts hail as crucial for safeguarding shared interests. “This visit is a strategic opportunity to reinforce economic and diplomatic ties,” said Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa, a regional analyst.

Pezeshkian’s agenda includes discussions to boost bilateral trade, which currently stands at approximately $2 billion annually, with both nations targeting an increase to $5 billion. The leaders are expected to explore opportunities in energy, infrastructure, and regional security, building on the 2004 Preferential Trade Agreement. The visit follows a series of high-level engagements, including the late President Ebrahim Raisi’s 2024 trip, signaling a sustained effort to enhance Iran-Pakistan relations.
Social media reactions on X reflect optimism, with users like @PakistanDiplomacy praising the “new chapter in Pak-Iran friendship.” As of 04:51 AM PKT on Sunday, August 3, 2025, no major agreements have been finalized, but the visit is seen as a step toward stabilizing the region amid U.S.-Iran tensions and Pakistan’s balancing act with global powers.
