Islamabad, June 30, 2025: In a historic move, Ireland bans Israeli products, becoming the first European Union nation to take such action. The Irish government has backed a bill to prohibit the import of goods from Israeli-occupied territories, including the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem.

This bold decision follows last year’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling that declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian lands violates international law. An Irish government official stated, “We are obligated under international law to act.”

The EU Israel trade ban targets items such as fruits, vegetables, and timber originating from Israeli settlements. While the trade volume is minor—under one million euros over four years—the symbolic message is powerful.

Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris urged other European nations to follow suit, saying, “I hope our action inspires broader EU alignment on this issue.” The new law is expected to come into effect by fall 2025.

This move aligns with Ireland’s 2024 recognition of the Palestinian state, a stance also adopted by Spain, Norway, and Slovenia. The step positions Ireland at the forefront of EU efforts to uphold international law in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
