Islamabad, Nov 12: The Inland Revenue Service Officers Association (IRSOA) strongly condemns a recent incident at Karachi’s Regional Tax Office (RTO), where staff at a private wedding hall prevented a team led by Assistant Commissioner (IR) Rai Hamza Ahmed from performing their official duties.
This incident, described by IRSOA as a blatant violation of legal authority, demands urgent action.
The association has repeatedly called for strengthened enforcement measures, highlighting the routine risks IRS personnel face.
IRSOA emphasized the need to properly resource the Inland Revenue Enforcement Network (IREN), established under SRO 250(I)/2019, which has proven successful despite limited funding.
They also suggested forming specialized enforcement units at the RTO level to support regular enforcement work.
Such measures, they argued, are critical to safeguarding IRS staff, allowing them to carry out their duties without obstruction, and addressing the estimated Rs. 4 trillion enforcement gaps.
IRSOA urged relevant authorities to enforce legal accountability for those involved in the incident and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The association pledged full support for the affected officers and is actively coordinating with FBR leadership to resolve the matter swiftly.
