Islamabad, Aug 5, 2025: The UFC is preparing for a thrilling finish to the year, and Islam Makhachev is at the center of it. Following a quiet September with no major numbered events, the organization has revealed two massive October showdowns, while a major November fight card is expected to be announced soon.
In a confirmation that’s already generating major buzz, MMA icon Khabib Nurmagomedov announced that Islam Makhachev will go up against rising welterweight talent Jack Della Maddalena for the 170-pound title. This match will headline UFC’s return to Madison Square Garden—marking Makhachev’s debut at the legendary arena known for its historic bouts.
“We’ve got the agreement. Islam will fight at MSG—Maddalena’s side gave the go-ahead,” Khabib shared during an interview with The Cornell Combat Sports Show.
MSG, often called the “Combat Sports Capital,” has witnessed unforgettable moments from legends like Muhammad Ali and Conor McGregor. Makhachev now has the chance to make his mark on that prestigious platform.

Speaking of McGregor, Khabib also commented on his latest scandal. After being found guilty in a long-standing 2018 assault case, McGregor’s public image continues to decline. Still, Khabib believes redemption is possible. “Everyone deserves another shot. If he changes, many around him might follow,” he remarked.
Khabib further confirmed that Bellator’s lightweight champ Usman Nurmagomedov will face Paul Hughes in a rematch on October 4 in Dubai, airing at 2 p.m. EST.
