Islamabad, 6 May, 2025: Major park upgrades are on the horizon for Islamabad, as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) moves forward with a comprehensive initiative to revamp public parks in every sector of the capital.

This wide-reaching plan is part of a broader effort to modernise the city’s infrastructure and elevate the standard of civic amenities.

Under this programme, the city’s parks will see the installation of new pedestrian walkways, upgraded lighting systems, refreshed landscaping, and improved play areas for children.

Authorities aim to provide cleaner, safer, and more accessible green spaces for residents.

The announcement came after CDA Chairman and Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, conducted a thorough assessment of the city’s current civic services.

During the review, he directed officials to prioritise both environmental enhancements and transport infrastructure improvements.

In addition to the major park upgrades, efforts are being made to address longstanding traffic bottlenecks.

Construction is under way for new underpasses and roads, while parking plazas are being developed in high-traffic areas.

Key thoroughfares such as Expressway, Margalla Road, Park Road, Club Road, and Faisal Avenue are undergoing enhancements that include re-painting lanes, fixing pavements, and improving roadside landscaping.

While inspecting facilities at the Pakistan Secretariat, Mr. Randhawa reviewed parking arrangements for staff and visitors.

Senior CDA officials including those from the Planning, Environment, and Works departments briefed him on a range of ongoing urban projects.

These include creating urban forests and mega parks, and reclaiming public spaces to help reduce air and water pollution.

Beautification efforts have also ramped up under the city’s green initiative. Decorative flower beds, seasonal blooms, wooden signage, and aesthetic planters are now being added to several roads to boost visual appeal. Residents have already reported a noticeable improvement in the city’s appearance.

To support these changes, modern street lighting is being installed across key roads to ensure better visibility and nighttime safety.

Randhawa instructed that these fixtures be both energy-efficient and visually pleasing, especially along Jinnah Avenue, Club Road, and the Expressway.

He further highlighted the importance of maintaining greenery, directing teams to implement automatic sprinkler systems to ensure consistent watering.

These improvements, he said, reflect the city’s ambition to become a model of sustainable urban living and an attractive destination for tourists.
