The Bakers Association of Islamabad has made an official request to raise the price of bread and demanded a common price both in the city and in the adjacent rural areas. Demand follows a major increase in production costs both in fine flour prices and LPG rates. Bakers believe that a uniform bread price will enable them to cope with the cost of operation and will guarantee them a constant output to the customer.
The letter of the association to the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad shows that the price of a 20-kg bag of fine flour has increased by about Rs 2,000 as a pressure factor on the local bakeries. As the cost of gas and raw materials has increased, bakers are petitioning regulatory authorities to allow retail prices to be changed. They insist that such step is required to keep the business going and prevent shortages.
According to industry professionals, increasing the cost of bread in cities and the countryside will make the price fair and avoid the differences between various regions of the federal capital. The association also advises that a new price list should be issued immediately to ensure that bakeries do not suffer any losses by serving the residents effectively without shortcutting on quality.

As inflation will be taking its toll on basic commodities, the consumers of Islamabad can expect the new standardized bread prices soon. Hopefully, the authorities will accept the adjustments and then bread supply will remain constant and uninterrupted in Islamabad.
