Islamabad, July 15, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert, predicting widespread rainfall and thunderstorms.

According to the Met Office, a low pressure area currently looming over northwest Madhya Pradesh in India is predicted to move toward Pakistan within 24 to 72 hours. As a result, it is likely to enhance ongoing monsoon activity fueling monsoon over central and northern Pakistan. Torrential rains accompanied by wind and thunderstorms are forecast across Islamabad and several regions of Pakistan from July 15 to 17.

Islamabad/ Punjab:
From the evening of July 14 through July 17, residents in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most of Punjab including Lahore, Murree, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur should prepare for thunderstorms and periods of heavy to extreme rain.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP):
Heavy rainfalls are expected across KP, particularly in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Bannu, Kohat, Abbottabad and various tribal districts. The rain is likely to last until July 17.

Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan:
Areas such as Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley and Rawalakot received showers from July 14 night and are likely to last until July 17. Gilgit-Baltistan including Hunza, Skardu and Gilgit will also see rain during this period with some breaks in between.

Balochistan:
The northeastern and southern districts of Balochistan including Quetta, Zhob, Lasbela, Khuzdar, and Dera Bugti are expected to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

Sindh:
Rain is also on the forecast for parts of Sindh including Tharparkar, Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpur Khas. Karachi may see light showers during this time.

Stay Safe Alert

The PMD has warned of potential urban flooding especially in low-lying city areas along with risks of landslides in hilly regions. Local authorities have been advised to stay prepared and citizens are urged to remain cautious especially while travelling or venturing into vulnerable zones.
