Islamabad schools have been directed to completely end corporal punishment after the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) issued strict orders to all institutions in the capital. The notification makes it clear that physical punishment of students is no longer allowed under any circumstances.

According to the FDE, giving corporal punishment is a serious violation of Section 3(2) of the law. The notification also warned that any school found guilty of such practices will face strict disciplinary action.

The letter further mentioned that despite repeated instructions from the FDE and the Ministry of Education, disturbing reports of students being physically punished in some urban and rural government schools had surfaced.

To stop such incidents, the FDE has instructed all school heads to set up active action committees within their institutions. Details of these committees must be displayed on banners inside school premises.
