Islamabad is on the brink of a major urban milestone with the imminent opening of its largest-ever parking plaza, designed to alleviate chronic traffic congestion and parking shortages in the capital.
Located in the bustling Blue Area, the multi-story facility is part of the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) ambitious plan to modernize infrastructure, with operations expected to commence within the next month, as reported by multiple sources.
The Blue Area Parking Plaza, a centerpiece of CDA’s parking reform strategy, is nearing completion after years of planning and construction. Reports indicates that the CDA has mandated its full operationalization by mid-October 2025, aiming to combat persistent gridlocks in this commercial hub.

The plaza, constructed near Jinnah Avenue adjacent to Centaurus Mall, will offer safe parking spaces and reduce illegal roadside parking, according to manahilestate.com, which notes its capacity to house 1,300 vehicles simultaneously. In a recent interview with a local TV channel, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa emphasized that the three-year-old project will be expedited to address parking woes effectively, with intensified efforts to ensure timely delivery.
Construction updates highlight significant progress, with the basement already completed and work accelerating across multiple sections. The project, initially slated for completion by September 2023, faced delays—exacerbated by a two-year setback —due to logistical challenges.
In addition to the Blue Area site, a second major parking plaza near the Pak Secretariat, spanning 133,729 square feet, is under construction to accommodate over 1,000 vehicles. This facility, also inspected by Randhawa, targets parking shortages for government staff and visitors, reinforcing CDA’s commitment to urban management. Both projects incorporate modern design elements, including commercial spaces and open-air restaurants.
