Islamabad, July 1, 2025: Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has suggested that normalisation of formal relations with Syria might be possible, as long as Israel maintains full control over the Golan Heights.
In a conversation with i24NEWS, Sa’ar remarked, “If there’s an opportunity for a peace agreement or normalization with Syria—provided the Golan remains in our hands—it would be a positive step for Israel’s future.”
His statement comes at at time when speculations are growing that Israel and Syria may be edging closer to a landmark normalization deal, potentially by the close of 2025.

A source referenced by i24NEWS suggested that the agreement might entail a gradual Israeli pullback from Syrian lands taken during the December 8, 2024 operation, including the peak of Mount Hermon.
The proposed deal would reportedly include the exchange of ambassadors and the conversion of the disputed Golan Heights area into a “peace park.”
Although neither governments has officially confirmed these claims, reports in Israeli outlets indicate that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to the United States will include talks focused on a broader regional peace framework.
Observers suspect this effort could be part of a broader extension of the Abraham Accords and may depend on support from US President Donald Trump to bring an end to the Gaza conflict.
