Islamabad, Oct 3: IST to Celebrate World Space Week 2024, Highlighting the Intersection of Space and Climate Change. The National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA) and the Institute of Space Technology (IST) are partnering to host a number of events to commemorate World Space Week (WSW) 2024, which will take place from October 4โ10.
An IST official stated that this yearly celebration, which is supported by the UN and observed all around the world, highlights the vital role that space research and technology will play in determining humankind’s destiny. The goal of this year’s topic, “Space and Climate Change,” is to increase public understanding of the roles that space technology plays in both climate solutions and environmental monitoring.
IST has organized a variety of events to commemorate (WSW), continuing its previous tradition of doing so from October 8โ10.The event, which is intended for students in Grades 6 through 12, will include seventy educational modules and ten categories. It will provide a variety of activities such as technology demonstrations, creative writing, space recitations, trivia, models and collectibles, performing arts, art and design, life and sustainability, and space for climate change.
By giving students an engaging forum to investigate the nexus between space technology and climate action, IST and NCGSA are empowering the next generation of scientists, innovators, and climate leaders. The United Nations has supported (WSW), an international festival honoring outstanding accomplishments in space science and technology as well as their significant contributions to humanity, for the past 19 years, which the Institute of Space Technology (IST) has proudly spearheaded.
Since its founding in 2005, IST has provided students with an engaging environment in which to participate in contests, immersive STEM and STEAM-based activities, and practical projects that spark their interest in and enthusiasm for space exploration.
In addition to inspiring young minds, this long-standing practice has helped people develop a profound understanding of the vital role that space technology plays in furthering scientific research and tackling global issues. By supporting space education on a national level during (WSW) IST has enabled students to be innovative, creative thinkers, and seek jobs in space science that are in line with the UN’s global vision.
IST continues to clear the path for future leaders and innovators in the space sector by fostering the next generation of space enthusiasts, guaranteeing a brighter, greater future advancements in technology for everyone.
Every year, World Space Week honors the accomplishments and contributions of space science, technology, and related fields. The United Nations General Assembly has designated October 4โ10 as (WSW) in an effort to raise awareness among the general public and young people about the benefits of space technology and its uses.
October 4, 1957, saw the launch of Sputnik 1, the first satellite built by humans, and October 10, 1967, saw the signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. These events are recognized by the UN General Assembly.
Through National Coordinators chosen in each nation, the non-governmental, non-profit (WSW) Association (www.worldspaceweek.org) organizes this joyous week of celebration across the globe. Through the Space Education and Awareness Drive (SEAD), the National Coordinator of Pakistan, the Secretary of the National Space Agency of Pakistan, SUPARCO, is in charge of organizing the event in that nation.
