Islamabad, Jan 31:The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has launched 14 e-Rozgar Centers across Pakistan as part of its initiative to promote freelancing and digital entrepreneurship. The program, spearheaded by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), aims to establish 250 centers nationwide by February 2027, generating an estimated $50 million in annual revenue.

According to PSEB, work is already in progress on an additional 20 centers, with the long-term goal of providing digital workspaces and essential resources to aspiring freelancers. These centers are a key component of the Prime Minister’s Digital Strategy, designed to reduce youth unemployment by creating sustainable digital job opportunities.

Under the initiative, Punjab will receive 149 centers, followed by Sindh (51), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (28), Islamabad (11), Balochistan (6), Azad Kashmir (3), and Gilgit-Baltistan (2). The selection of locations is based on population density and Ignite’s database of 1.2 million registered freelancers.

The government is actively encouraging private building owners to partner in the initiative, offering interest-free loans of up to Rs. 10 million to those willing to provide space for e-Rozgar Centers. The selection process involves Expression of Interest (EoI) notices, with applications evaluated by an independent committee.

In addition to state-of-the-art infrastructure, the centers will offer free training programs for developers and freelancers, covering marketable digital skills. The initiative also includes marketing support and trainer funding, ensuring accessibility for aspiring freelancers across Pakistan.

By democratizing access to digital work opportunities, the e-Rozgar program is set to empower youth, boost IT exports, and position Pakistan as a key player in the global freelancing market.
