Islamabad, Feb 5: The Ministry of IT & Telecom has outlined its preliminary budget proposal for the federal Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the upcoming fiscal year. The ministry is seeking an allocation of Rs. 43.65 billion to fund 18 key projects aimed at advancing Pakistan’s digital landscape.
A significant portion of the budget—Rs. 3.42 billion—has been earmarked for six initiatives under the Special Communications Organization (SCO). Additionally, Rs. 2.83 billion has been proposed to support seven projects managed by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB). To drive major advancements in the IT sector, Rs. 11.46 billion has been designated for three large-scale technology projects.
The proposal also includes Rs. 249 million for a project under the National Telecommunication and Information Security Board (NTISB), which focuses on enhancing cybersecurity measures. In a bid to boost connectivity in remote areas, Rs. 1 billion has been set aside for expanding mobile network services in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, an initiative expected to drive tourism and economic development.

Furthermore, the Islamabad IT Park project has been allocated Rs. 9.85 billion for the next financial year to establish a world-class technology hub. The Digital Economy Enhancement Project, aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, is set to receive Rs. 1.5 billion, while Rs. 250 million has been proposed for the Cyber Security for Digital Pakistan initiative to fortify national cybersecurity capabilities.
To foster innovation and entrepreneurship, the ministry has allocated Rs. 2.47 billion for the IT Startups Support Program for 2025-26. This program aims to empower emerging tech enterprises by providing essential resources and financial backing, ultimately contributing to the country’s growing digital economy.
By strategically investing in these initiatives, the Ministry of IT & Telecom aims to accelerate Pakistan’s technological progress, enhance digital security, and expand IT infrastructure. These projects are expected to strengthen the country’s position in the global tech ecosystem while fostering economic growth through digital transformation.
With these ambitious plans, the ministry seeks to create a robust IT framework that not only enhances connectivity but also nurtures innovation, positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in the global digital economy.
