Islamabad, Nov 25: Ivory Coast Makes History with Record Low Score in T20I Cricket. The Ivory Coast collapsed for just 7 runs, the lowest total in men’s T20I history, causing cricket fans to witness a historic low in the sport.
In Sunday’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier Group C in Lagos, they lost to Nigeria by 264 runs, displaying this poor performance. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Nigeria launched a batting blitz lead by Player-of-the-Match Selim Salau, who retired out after smashing an incredible 112 off 53 balls. Sulaimon Runsewe (50 off 29 balls) and Isaac Okpe (65* off 23 balls) both contributed to Nigeria’s overwhelming 271/4 total.
The Ivory Coast then completely collapsed in batting. With three wickets apiece, pacer Prosper Useni and left-arm spinner Isaac Danladi caused havoc. One batter was run out, and Sylvester Okpe and Peter Aho also contributed.
Ouattara Mohamed, the opener, scored the most runs with just four during the short 7.3-over Ivory Coast innings. The scores for the other batter are as follows: 4, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0, and 0*. In men’s Twenty20 Internationals, this was the first-ever single-digit total, surpassing the previous record of 10 all out set by the Isle of Man (against Spain, February 2023) and Mongolia (against Singapore, September 2024).
Additionally, the game yielded the third-largest margin of victory in the history of men’s T20I. Nigeria’s 264-run victory is less than Zimbabwe’s historic 290-run success over Gambia in October 2024 and Nepal’s 273-run victory over Mongolia at the Asian Games in 2023. Ironically, Ivory Coast has two of the lowest T20I cricket scores.
