The opening batter was unbeaten on 63 as the teams paused for lunch on day three, contributing to England’s score of 332 for two; trailing India’s first innings total of 358 by just 26 runs.

In doing so, Joe Root eclipsed Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis, pushing his career tally to 13,322 runs. To claim second place, he requires 57 more runs to surpass Ricky Ponting’s 13,378, while Sachin Tendulkar remains the record-holder with a staggering 15,921 runs.
The 34-year-old possesses a durability and technique that has helped make him a formidable figure in the longest format of the sport. Throughout his 157 test matches, he recorded 37 centuries and 67 half-centuries! He has a top score of 262.
