Islamabad, Aug 13, 2025: The Ministry of Law and Justice has revealed in the Senate that the widow of a judge receives extensive benefits, including a driver, orderly, 2,000 units of free electricity, free water, and 300 liters of petrol every month. She is also granted a complete exemption from income tax along with a pension.

In addition to these privileges, she enjoys a full income tax exemption and a monthly pension. These provisions ensure financial security and convenience, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting the families of judicial officers. Such judge widow benefits play a crucial role in maintaining the dignity and welfare of those who have lost their spouse serving the judiciary.

The Chief Justice pension and perks have seen a remarkable increase over the last decade. In 2010, a retired chief justice received Rs560,000 per month, which gradually rose to Rs644,000 in 2011, Rs773,000 in 2012, Rs850,000 in 2013, Rs935,000 in 2014, Rs1.005 million in 2015, Rs1.105 million in 2016, Rs1.217 million in 2017, and Rs1.338 million in 2018.

By 2021, the pension reached Rs1.452 million, climbed to Rs1.657 million in 2023, and surged to Rs2.39 million in 2024. Beyond monthly pension, the ministry also revealed additional benefits extended to a top jurist’s widow, including a dedicated driver and domestic staff.

Other privileges include 2,000 units of electricity per month, complimentary water supply, 300 litres of petrol monthly, and exemption from income tax. These benefits ensure a comfortable post-retirement life for the judiciary.

In November of the previous year, the federal government notably enhanced the salaries and allowances of superior judiciary judges. The Ministry of Law and Justice announced that the house rent allowance for Supreme Court judges increased from Rs68,000 to Rs350,000. In parallel, the superior judicial allowance was raised from Rs428,040 to Rs1,161,163.

High court judges also received substantial increments. Their house rent was increased from Rs65,000 to Rs350,000, while judicial allowances were revised from Rs342,431 to Rs1,090,434, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting the judiciary.
