This alarming rise in heat is part of a broader global pattern, with 12 countries including Japan, Spain, Nigeria, and Pakistan recording their warmest June in history.
According to European Copernicus Climate Monitor data analyzed by AFP, nearly 800 million people across Asia, Europe, and Africa were exposed to extreme heat. Pakistan’s record heat came after an already scorching spring, making April to June the hottest period ever recorded for the country.
Neighboring countries like Iran, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan also reported similar trends. Japan registered its highest June temperatures since 1898, with sea surface temperatures climbing 1.2°C above normal. Even the natural blooming of cherry trees was affected.
