Islamabad, June 16, 2025: The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is set to raise its fare rates from July 1, despite receiving a massive subsidy of Rs. 4 billion, official documents reveal.
A notification issued on Monday confirmed that the BRT’s Board of Governors has approved a fare hike, under which passengers will now be charged an additional Rs. 10 per stop.
According to the new BRT fare structure:
- A 5-kilometer trip will cost Rs. 30
- A 40-kilometer journey will be charged at Rs. 70

The decision comes as the BRT continues to face financial losses, with the existing subsidy failing to stabilize its revenue situation. Officials argue that the fare revision is necessary to reduce the growing deficit and maintain service standards.
The new rates will come into effect on July 1.
