Islamabad, Feb 13: In an unusual lapse of protocol, a Dubai-to-Karachi flight was mistakenly directed to the domestic terminal instead of the international section at Jinnah International Airport, sources revealed on Thursday.
According to reports, the international flight was assigned a domestic boarding bridge due to the unavailability of a designated jet bridge. Once the error was identified, the aircraft was promptly pushed back and repositioned at the correct terminal.
The private airline’s flight touched down at Karachi Airport at 12:50 AM. Officials attribute the misallocation of the aircraft to an operational oversight by the concerned authorities.
This incident is reminiscent of past airport management lapses in Pakistan. On October 9, 2018, a passenger boarding bridge at Islamabad International Airport collapsed, injuring an unidentified individual. The nature of the injury remains unclear, as it is uncertain whether the victim was on the bridge or in its vicinity. Following the incident, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) launched an investigation.

Islamabad International Airport, which became operational on May 1, 2018, was designed to accommodate nine million passengers and handle 50,000 metric tons of cargo annually. The airport’s construction began in April 2007 but faced multiple delays before its official inauguration.
While Karachi Airport is one of Pakistan’s busiest aviation hubs, incidents like these raise concerns about procedural lapses and safety measures. Authorities must implement stricter controls to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
