Islamabad, Mar 3, 2025: To alleviate traffic congestion during Ramadan, particularly around Iftar hours, the Karachi administration has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan aimed at ensuring smoother movement across the city.
During a recent meeting chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi, officials discussed strategies to improve traffic flow in high-density areas.
The session was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, and representatives from municipal and cantonment boards.
According to DIG Shah, additional traffic personnel will be stationed on key roads between 2 PM and 7 PM to regulate the expected surge in vehicles.
To further ease congestion, special help desks will be established in major shopping districts to address parking issues and assist citizens during the busy Eid shopping period.
The commissioner also directed deputy commissioners to collaborate with market associations to streamline parking arrangements and facilitate uninterrupted traffic movement.
A key focus of the plan includes reopening basement parking areas in commercial buildings that have been illegally repurposed into warehouses or shops.
As part of the initiative, authorities have begun reclaiming parking spaces in major shopping centers. Immediate action has been ordered to restore parking facilities at key locations, including Imtiaz Supermarket on Rashid Minhas Road and Chase Up Value on Kashmir Road.
Officials confirmed that n District South, multiple commercial buildings have already reopened their basement parking, with similar steps planned across Karachi.
The administration aims to expand these measures citywide, ensuring a more organized and efficient traffic system throughout Ramadan and Eid.
