Islamabad, Jan 24: Karachi is bracing for a fresh wave of cold winds starting January 24, promising a noticeable drop in temperature. After a brief spell of milder weather, the city is set to experience a resurgence of winter chill, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The recent weather shift had eased the intensity of cold winds, pushing Karachi’s minimum temperature to 13.5°C earlier this week. Foggy conditions reduced visibility to 1,200 meters, but this reprieve is temporary as a western weather system is expected to bring colder winds from Balochistan.
Meteorologists anticipate that these northeast winds will plunge Karachi’s minimum temperature to 9°C, making the city’s evenings and mornings significantly colder.
The maximum daytime temperature is predicted to remain around 29°C, while the overall weather is forecasted to be dry and chilly in the next 24 hours. Residents should prepare for intensified cold as this weather system strengthens.
Meanwhile, Pakistan faces broader climatic challenges, with drought conditions emerging due to drastically reduced rainfall.

The PMD reports a 40% rainfall deficit nationwide over the past four months, with the hardest-hit areas including Sindh (52% deficit) and Balochistan (45% deficit). In Punjab, regions like Pothohar, Layyah, and Multan are already experiencing light drought conditions.
Similar challenges are being observed in Rajanpur, Bahawalpur, and Sargodha, along with major cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, and Badin.
This prolonged dry spell could accelerate the onset of summer, bringing an early rise in temperatures.
The drought situation highlights the urgent need for sustainable water management, especially in regions heavily reliant on rainfall.
As Karachi residents prepare for colder days ahead, the broader implications of changing weather patterns remain a pressing concern for the entire nation.
