Islamabad, Feb 8: The Directorate of Colleges Education, Karachi Region, has implemented a strict ban on cash payments at all colleges across the city. According to an official notification issued by Regional Director Faqir Muhammad Lakho, college principals have been explicitly instructed to prohibit cash transactions at student service counters. Instead, all payments, including tuition and examination fees, must be directly deposited into the designated college bank accounts.
The directive stresses that principals are responsible for ensuring compliance with this new policy and overseeing all financial transactions at student service counters. Any violations or irregularities in fee collection will result in the respective principal being held accountable. This move aims to enhance transparency and prevent any financial misconduct within educational institutions.
The decision comes in response to a recent case of financial mismanagement at Government College for Women Nazimabad and Jinnah College Nazimabad. Several staff members were found guilty of misappropriating examination fees for associate degree students, leaving 250 students without their admit cards on time. The incident sparked concerns among students and parents, prompting immediate intervention by the University of Karachi.

In response, Dr. Zafar, the Controller of Examinations at the University of Karachi, took urgent action to issue admit cards to the affected students to ensure they could sit for their exams. Additionally, the principal of the college filed an official complaint (FIR) against those responsible for the financial misconduct, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to upholding accountability.
By enforcing this policy, the Directorate aims to curb financial irregularities and create a transparent and efficient payment system for students. This measure will not only protect students from potential fraud but also streamline financial operations within colleges, fostering a more secure and reliable educational environment in Karachi.
