Islamabad, Mar 3, 2025: Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has introduced updated pricing for flour and bread in an effort to regulate food costs during the holy month of Ramadan.
As per the latest notification, No. 2.5 flour will be supplied to wholesalers at Rs. 83 per kilogram, while retail consumers will purchase it for Rs. 87 per kilogram.
The cost of fine flour has been set at Rs. 88 per kg in the wholesale market and Rs. 92 per kg for retail buyers. Additionally, Chakki flour will be available at Rs. 100 per kg.
Despite these official price caps, actual market rates remain significantly higher.
Fine flour is currently being sold between Rs. 90 to Rs. 100 per kg, whereas Chakki flour ranges from Rs. 110 to Rs. 115 per kg.
Revised Rates for Roti and Naan
The administration has also regulated bread prices to ensure affordability for the public.
The price of a 100-gram roti has been set at Rs. 10, while a 120-gram naan will cost Rs. 15.
However, in different parts of Karachi, chapati is being sold at Rs. 18 to Rs. 20, whereas naan prices fluctuate between Rs. 25 and Rs. 28.

Strict Monitoring to Control Overpricing
To curb overcharging, the Commissioner’s office has launched a complaint cell where citizens can report price violations.
Furthermore, Deputy Commissioners across the city have been instructed to enforce price regulations through fines and arrests against violators.
Authorities have also assured that daily price lists for essential goods will be issued to prevent price manipulation and ensure fair trade practices.
These measures aim to provide relief to Karachi’s residents during Ramadan, ensuring that essential commodities remain accessible at government-approved prices.
