Islamabad, Aug 5, 2025: Karachi Green Line BRT is gearing up for expansion as the second phase of the Bus Rapid Transit system is scheduled to kick off in the second week of August, promising better urban travel options for city residents.

The earlier section of the Green Line, connecting Surjani Town to Numaish, was finalized back in 2021. After a break of nearly four years, work is ready to resume for the upcoming segment.

This stage will extend the route by 1.8 kilometers, stretching from Capri Cinema to Municipal Park in Saddar. The plan involves building three modern bus stops and installing two dedicated traffic lights to assist in managing the flow. This segment will act as a major artery within the larger Green Line BRT network.

Tenders for the construction have already been granted, and with an additional Rs. 5 billion sanctioned, the total development cost has now surged to Rs. 30 billion.

Originally, the Federal Government had approved Rs. 42.7 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2025-26 for the complete Karachi Green Line BRT.

Upon completion and full connection with other routes, the BRT system is projected to cut down commute durations, reduce traffic pressure, and contribute to lowering harmful emissions in the city.
