Islamabad, 3 june 2025: Crackdown on Heavy Vehicles is now in full swing across Punjab as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to clamp down on public weapon displays and the aggressive use of Toyota Hilux trucks, often linked with intimidation and unlawful shows of power.
The newly formed Crime Control Department (CCD), a specialized unit created to tackle rising street-level disorder and criminality, has been assigned the responsibility to implement these orders.
Backed by law enforcement and surveillance infrastructure, the CCD will move decisively against those misusing vehicles or brandishing firearms in public.

According to Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chatha, the drive will involve crackdown on heavy vehicles being used to instill fear especially Toyota Hilux pickups with blaring sirens, tinted windows, and armed escorts.
These vehicles have become an unfortunate symbol of impunity, often used to bully or overawe common citizens in traffic.
Chatha further stated that over 21,000 cameras linked to Punjab’s Safe City project will aid in enforcement.

Artificial intelligence will assist in identifying individuals who violate the ban on visible firearms or use vehicles to project influence. “Creating panic or public distress through weapons or vehicular aggression is entirely unacceptable,” he remarked.
The crackdown on heavy vehicles also aims to reclaim public spaces from elements misusing their influence. Authorities believe that restoring order on the roads is essential to building public confidence and curbing the normalization of fear-based displays of status.
