Islamabad, Aug 25: In order to address the impending difficulty, the municipal administration of Karachi has declared a “rain emergency” for all local government institutions as they prepare for heavy showers starting on Monday due to a new weather system.
A weather system that was forming in West Bengal was expected to bring with it heavy rains, according to a forecast from the Met Office. The system was also expected to proceed westward over the following several days. From Monday through Thursday, significant rainfall and urban flooding are anticipated as a result of it.
City Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged all relevant institution heads to exercise caution during her Saturday meeting, chairing it. The Met office’s forecast called for moderate to heavy rains in Karachi and other parts of Sindh between August 26 and 29.
In response to the post-rain scenario in the city, the mayor simultaneously issued a rain emergency. To prepare for the anticipated rains, he also gave directives to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) municipal services and halted the leaves of all affected employees.
In the meantime, in order to lessen the possible effects of flooding and severe rains, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) asked the public and other pertinent authorities to adopt the appropriate safety measures.
In order to guarantee a prompt response to any emerging circumstances, the NDMA directed all pertinent agencies to notify Emergency Response Teams and mobilize resources. “The public is urged to exercise caution and heed local authorities’ instructions.”
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had published a forecast earlier on Friday indicating that there would be intense rains from August 25 to August 29, particularly in the southern region. A low-pressure weather system that is now over West Bengal is expected to move westward over the next several days and may reach the southern beaches of the nation by August 25, according to a PMD alert released on Friday.
In Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tharparkar, Nagarparkar, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, Matiari, Sanghar, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Naushahro Feroze from August 25 to 29 with sporadic gaps could occur as a result of this weather system.
