Islamabad 10 August: Traffic accidents claimed 536 lives in Karachi during the first seven months of 2025, according to official police data, underscoring persistent road safety challenges in the country’s largest city.
Figures show that heavy and commercial vehicles were involved in a significant portion of the fatalities, while motorcyclists accounted for more than half of the deaths. The victims included 51 women and 68 children.
District Malir recorded the highest toll with 174 deaths, followed by West Kemari with 136. The data also revealed that pedestrians remained highly vulnerable, with 179 killed during the period.

Authorities say poor traffic discipline, speeding, lack of enforcement, and inadequate road infrastructure remain key factors in the rising toll. Calls are growing for stricter traffic law enforcement, improved driver training, and targeted safety campaigns for vulnerable road users.
