Residents of Karachi have been warned to prepare for heavy to very heavy rains with thunderstorms between September 7 and 9, raising serious concerns of urban flooding in low-lying areas.
Rain and Thunderstorm Forecast
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a fresh weather system will bring strong showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to Karachi over the next three days. The stormy weather may cause traffic disruptions, infrastructure damage, and power outages.
High Flood Risk in Karachi
Officials caution that Karachi’s poor drainage and clogged sewerage systems make the city vulnerable to severe waterlogging and urban flooding. Areas with a history of flooding are particularly at risk if heavy rains continue. Citizens are advised to take safety precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
Temperature and Humidity Update
Despite the expected rainfall, Karachi temperatures may rise up to 35°C, with high humidity levels adding to residents’ discomfort.
