Islamabad, 19 Apr, 2025: Kesari Chapter 2 box office collection continues to be the focal point of attention as Akshay Kumar and R. Madhavan’s historical legal drama made its theatrical debut with a mixed reception.
Despite a slow initial turnout on Friday morning, the film gained momentum through strong viewer feedback and robust international earnings by the day’s end.
Directed by debutant Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh sees Akshay Kumar stepping into the role of the legendary lawyer C. Sankaran Nair. Set against the backdrop of British colonial India.

The narrative follows his determined legal battle to expose the horrifying truth of the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy. R. Madhavan stars as Advocate Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday portrays journalist Dilreet Gill.
Although the film didn’t open with thunderous fanfare, it performed reasonably well overall. As per box office tracker Sacnilk, the film netted ₹7.75 crore in India on its first day, with a gross domestic total of ₹9.25 crore. Its international collections stood at ₹5.75 crore, bringing its day-one worldwide gross to ₹15 crore.
While it outpaced Sunny Deol’s recent release Jaat which opened at ₹13.50 crore globally Kesari Chapter 2 still lags behind Akshay Kumar’s earlier release Sky Force, which grossed over ₹20 crore on its opening day back in January.
One of the major highlights of the film’s performance was the steady rise in audience engagement throughout Friday.
Early morning showings saw just 12–13% theater occupancy across India, but as positive word-of-mouth spread, evening and night shows reached nearly 28% occupancy.
Encouraging reviews from critics and celebrities including Vicky Kaushal and Urmila Matondkar praised the film’s emotional depth and the cast’s standout performances.
Backed by production houses Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, the movie blends historical depth with courtroom intensity, making it a compelling watch.
The filmmakers are now counting on stronger weekend footfall to boost momentum and potentially push the film into a profitable zone in the coming days.
